‘A Year at the Dog Park’ an NBC sitcom?

Congrats to Globe TV critic Matthew Gilbert, whose new book, “Off the Leash: A Year at the Dog Park,” has been optioned by NBC. The network seems to think the book chronicling a year in the life of a Boston dog park — and the strange, wonderful, eccentric people who gather there daily — could be good fodder for a sitcom, and we agree. Gilbert, of course, could be played by Hugh Laurie or Ralph Fiennes . . . And a shout-out to local film producers Paul Bernon and Sam Slater, of Burn Later Productions, whose movie “Adult Beginners,” helmed by Ross Katz, will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival. The movie, about a guy who hits rock bottom and moves in with his sister, stars Nick Kroll and Rose Byrne.
