Chris Cooper to play J.D. Salinger
Oscar winner Chris Cooper has landed a plum job, playing "Catcher in the Rye" author J.D. Salinger
in "Coming Through the Rye," written by Emmy Award winner Jim Sadwith, who will also direct. The movie is described as a coming-of age drama set in 1969 involving two teens, played by Alex Wolff ("Hair Brained" and "A Birder's Guide to Everything") and Stefania Owen ("The Carrie Diaries" and "The Lovely Bones"), as they search for the reclusive Salinger. Based on Sadwith's own quest to find Salinger, the story centers on a sensitive boy, a quirky girl, and the road they travel to find the writer. Cooper, who lives in Kingston, won an Academy Award for his role in "Adaptation." . . . The movie based on the colorful life of boxer Vinny Pazienza is set to start shooting. Boston Casting has invited extras to show up
Nov. 12 at Twin Rivers Casino in Rhode Island. Called "Bleed for This," the movie produced by Martin Scorsese stars Miles Teller, Katey Sagal, and Ciaran Hinds. . . . Word from the West Coast is that Matt Damon will star in "Downsizing," a new film by director Alexander Payne. The script was written by Payne with Jim Taylor, his collaborator on "Sideways."
