Former Red Sox infielder Kevin Youkilis is getting into the restaurant business. The San Jose Mercury News reports that Youkilis and his brother Scott have purchased the Los Gatos Brewing Company in Los Gatos, Calif., and plan to reopen the brew pub next summer with a new name, the Foglight Alehouse. Youkilis, who won the World Series with the Sox in 2004 and 2007, played in Japan last season but has since hung up his cleats. (The player called “the Greek God of Walks” in Michael Lewis’s book “Moneyball,” finished his career with a respectable .281 batting average, 150 home runs, and 618 RBIs.) The ballplayer’s brother, who owns the Hog & Rocks ham and oyster bar in San Francisco, told the newspaper the new brew pub will focus on “simple California comfort food with a twist.” During his playing days in Boston, Youkilis was a regular at Davio’s in Park Square and the Border Cafe in Harvard Square. He’s married to Julie Brady, sister of Super Bowl-bound Pats QB Tom Brady.
