There is no scarcity of great Boston architects, but the College of the Holy Cross has chosen the New York firm of Diller Scofidio + Renfro to design the school’s new performing arts center. Holy Cross’s president, Rev. Philip Boroughs, said DS+R was chosen following a design competition that attracted proposals from eight world-class architecture firms. Diller Scofidio + Renfro’s resume includes the design of Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art, Brown University’s Granoff Center for the Creative Arts, the University of California’s Berkeley Art Museum, and Stanford University’s new McMurtry Building, which will house the art and art history department. The new performing arts center at Holy Cross is being financed in part with $25 million from alumnus Cornelius B. Prior , the largest single gift in Holy Cross history.
