Berklee College of Music has chosen a deserving recipient of the inaugural George Wein Impresario Award. Jazz promoter Fred Taylor , who’s been booking shows in Boston since the early 1960s when he ran Paul’s Mall and the Boston Jazz Workshop, will receive the award (named for Newport Jazz Festival founder George Wein) at Scullers Jazz Club Wednesday. The evening will include a concert produced by Berklee professor Bill Banfield, and feature performances by faculty members Tia Fuller, George Russell Jr., John Lockwood, Yoron Israel, Maggie Scott, Gabrielle Goodman, Donna McElroy, and others. . . . Meanwhile, cellist Yo-Yo Ma’s Silk Road Ensemble performed at Symphony Hall the other night as part of the Celebrity Series, and then joined WHDH-TV’s Janet Wu, among many others, at a festive after party.
