Less than 12 hours before he was scheduled to hop a flight to perform at SXSW, pop singer Scott Isbell was nervous — but not about the show. “I’m actually more nervous about catching my flight. I’m obsessed,” Isbell said Wednesday night, adding that he planned to get up before 4 a.m. to get to the airport. This will be the first festival performance for Isbell, who’s from Acton and is studying marketing and communications at Emerson College. He’s represented by Jimmy Kang, vice president of Wu-Tang Management, who signed him after catching his performance at a club in Worcester. Isbell says he’ll debut two new songs during his Saturday night set at the Nook Amphitheater in Austin, Texas. In the days before the show, he also hopes to find time to mingle with industry professionals, including Matt Graham, who works with Scooter Braun, best known for representing Justin Bieber. The trip will require skipping classes, but Isbell says his Emerson professors have been understanding. After all, it’s a performing arts school. “I don’t think they’d say the same thing if this was a hockey tournament.”
