Patrick Kennedy was at the Cambridge Public Library Thursday discussing his new memoir, “A Common Struggle: A Personal Journey Through the Past and Future of Mental Illness and Addiction.” The book, an intensely personal account of Kennedy’s long struggle with mental illness and addiction, has bothered some members of the Kennedy clan. In the book, the former Rhode Island congressman reveals that his father, the late Senator Ted Kennedy, used alcohol to cope with the murders of his older brothers John , assassinated when he was president, and Robert, assassinated when he was a US senator running for the presidential nomination. Patrick Kennedy’s older brother, Ted Kennedy Jr., has said the memoir is an “inaccurate and unfair portrayal of our family.”
