The mother of pop star Kesha confirmed via Twitter on Sunday that Taylor Swift donated $250,000 “as a show of support during this difficult time.”
“A person’s wealth is not measured by what they have but by WHO they help with it. And Taylor Swift is a truly RICH PERSON,” Pebe Sebert, Kesha’s mom, tweeted Sunday night.
A New York Supreme Court Justice ruled Friday that Kesha could not be released from her contract with producer Dr. Luke, whom she’s accused – and sued – for sexual assault. Kesha alleges in her 2014 lawsuit against Sony and Dr. Luke that the hitmaker – who’s also worked with Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry, and Avril Lavigne – raped her, forced her to drink alcohol, and gave her “sober pills,” which she claims turned out to be the depressant GHB. The suit alleges that Dr. Luke told Kesha that if she talked to others about the rape, he would ruin her career. Dr. Luke has countersued, claiming that the singer and her family are trying to extort him.
After Friday’s decision, a group of entertainers – including Demi Lovato, Clarkson, Fiona Apple, and Lady Gaga – tweeted their support for Kesha. “There are people all over the world who love you @KeshaRose. And I can say truly I am in awe of your bravery,” Gaga tweeted.

Not everyone, it seems, is so moved by Swift’s donation to Kesha’s cause. Lovato tweeted “Take something to Capitol Hill or actually speak out about something and then I’ll be impressed,” which seemed to be a swipe at Swift. On Instagram, she added, “I didn’t shade Taylor. If you take it than (sic) fine. I’m just of seeing women use “women empowerment” and “feminism” to further brand without actually being the ones that have the uncomfortable conversation.”
