Matt Damon didn’t win an Oscar for “The Martian,” but he has another try at a prize now that he’s nominated for an MTV Movie Award.

The network revealed its 2016 nominations Tuesday morning. Damon is up against Chris Pratt, Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael B. Jordan, Ryan Reynolds, and Will Smith for best male performance. In the female category, it’s “Ex Machina” actress Alicia Vikander, Anna Kendrick, Charlize Theron, Daisy Ridley, Jennifer Lawrence, and Morena Baccarin of “Deadpool.” The movie of the year category features some titles overlooked by the Oscars: “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Creed,” “Deadpool,” “Jurassic World,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” and “Straight Outta Compton.”

Of all of the quirky MTV categories — which include best villain, best kiss, and best fight — we’re partial to best virtual performance. Nominees in that category are Amy Poehler for “Inside Out,” Andy Serkis for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” Jack Black for “Kung Fu Panda 3,” James Spader for “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” Lupita Nyong’o for Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” and Seth MacFarlane for the Boston comedy “Ted 2.”

The MTV Movie Awards — which will be hosted by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart, of the Mass.-made film “Central Intelligence” — airs April 10.
