Producers of “Patriots Day,” the movie about the Boston Marathon bombings that is set to start filming here this month, announced Friday that former Boston Police Commissioner Ed Davis will be played in the film by John Goodman. Goodman is best known for his role on the hit TV show “Roseanne” and in Coen brothers films “The Big Lebowski” and “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” “Commissioner Davis is an American hero, and John Goodman brings the extraordinary combination of humility, gravitas and empathy to portray him,” the movie’s director, Peter Berg, said in a statement. The movie, produced by CBS Films, stars Mark Wahlberg as a Boston cop on duty on the day of the bombings in 2013. Producers previously announced that Oscar winner J.K. Simmons will play Watertown Police Sergeant Jeffrey Pugliese in “Patriots Day,” and Jimmy O. Yang, an actor on the HBO series “Silicon Valley,” will play Dun Meng, the Chinese national who was carjacked and held captive by the Tsarnaev brothers for 90 minutes before escaping.
