Bradley Bartlett-Roche, the 13-year-old musician who calls himself the “Boston Piano Kid,” got to perform with Billy Joel at Fenway Park on Aug. 18. Joel introduced Bartlett-Roche to the crowd and had a little fun with him when he got on stage. “You know after this, it’s all downhill,” Joel joked. “It might be a little anticlimactic after this. It took me 60 years to get here!”
Joel and Bartlett-Roche then proceeded to play the instrumental song “Root Beer Rag” together, and the youngster held his own (anyone who’s listened to Joel’s 1974 album will tell you, it’s a very fast song).
Afterward, Bertlett-Roche wrote on his Facebook page that performing with Joel “was absolutely surreal” and he posted a video clip of the performance on YouTube. You can watch it here:
