Angelina Jolie and Brad P itt are done, according to TMZ. The website reports that Jolie filed for divorce Monday citing irreconcilable differences, and she’s asking for physical custody of the couple’s six children. The problem isn’t another man — or woman — it’s Pitt’s parenting style, according to sources close to the couple. (Jolie was “extremely upset with his methods,” TMZ reports.)
But The New York Post reports there may indeed be another woman - and her name is Marion Cotillard, the French actress with whom Pitt spent several months shooting “Allied,” a World War II drama due out in November.
According to The Post, Jolie hired a private detective who quickly discovered that Pitt and Cotillard were getting cozy on the set. But that’s not all. The actor also has been “in the throes of some insane midlife crisis,” a source told the tabloid.
“The atmosphere (off-set) was full of hard drugs and Russian hookers, and Angie was told Brad got caught up in it,” the source said.
Jolie lists the date of separation as Sept. 15, 2016. The pair, married since August 2014, have been together since costarring in “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” in 2004. Pitt, who’s 52, was previously married to actress Jennifer Anist on. Jolie, 41, was married twice before, to Jonny Lee Miller and Billy Bob Thornton.
In a statement, Pitt said his concern is for the children.
“I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the wellbeing of our kids. I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time,” the actor told People.com.
TMZ reports that Jolie is being represented by high-powered Hollywood lawyer Laura Wasser, who also repped the actress in her divorce from Thornton. Wasser has a long list of celebrity clients, including Drew Barrymore (in her split from BU grad Will Kopelman); Jennifer Garner (in her still-pending divorce from Ben Affleck); Kennedy cousin Maria Shriver (in her divorce from Arnold Schwarzenegger); and Kim Kardashian (in her split with Celtics short-timer Kris Humphries). Most recently, Wasser repped “Black Mass” star Johnny Depp in his acrimonious divorce with Amber Heard.
It’s not clear if the couple had a prenuptial agreement, but each sure has a lot of money. Jolie doesn’t work as much as she once did — she made five movies in 2004 and appeared in just one in 2015 — but she still has an estimated net worth of $160 million, earning $15 million last year alone, according to Forbes. Pitt, meanwhile, earned $31.5 million in 2015, according to Forbes. Interestingly, in “By the Sea,” the last movie they made together — and which Jolie wrote and directed — the pair play a wealthy discontented couple.
