Celebrated designer Maya Lin will be at Smith College tomorrow to unveil drawings of the college’s newly redesigned Neilson Library.

Janette S. Blackburn of the architecture firm of Shepley Bulfinch, which has partnered with Lin on the library project, will also participate in the public presentation at Sage Hall.

Smith College President Kathleen McCartney said Lin has worked closely with Shepley Bulfinch and the college’s design committee to develop “the ideal library for the 21st century” and she’s confident that the new design will be “distinctly Smith.” The groundbreaking for the project is scheduled for 2017.

The library, originally built in 1909, is named after Smith’s third president, William Allan Neilson. This marks the first redesign of the library since 1982.
