More actors have joined the cast of “I, Tonya,” the movie, now in production, about ice skater Tonya Harding, who was stripped of her US Figure Skating Association title after her involvement in the 1994 attack on fellow skater and Stoneham native Nancy Kerrigan.
It had already been announced that “Suicide Squad” actress Margot Robbie would star as Harding, “Captain America: Civil War” actor Sebastian Stan would play Hardings’s ex, Jeff Gillooly, and Allison Janney would play her mother. According to Internet Movie Database, Medford-bred actress Julianne Nicholson, of “Black Mass,” has joined the cast as Harding’s former coach Diane Rawlinson, and Paul Walter Hauser, of the TV show “Kingdom,” has signed on to play the late Shawn Eckhardt, Harding’s former bodyguard, who admitted he was involved in the planning of the attack. There’s still no word on who’s playing Kerrigan in the film, or if she’s being portrayed at all.
“I, Tonya” is being directed by Craig Gillespie, who filmed Disney’s “The Finest Hours” with Casey Affleck and Chris Pine in Chatham in 2014 and 2015.
