Samantha Bee is hosting her own White House correspondents’ dinner.
TBS — which airs Bee’s late-night news satire program, “Full Frontal,” announced Monday that Bee has scheduled her “Not the White House Correspondents’ Dinner” for April 29, the same night reserved for the real affair.
“Samantha Bee, noted purveyor of FAKE NEWS™, will host the gala affair, welcoming journalists and non-irritating celebrities from around the world,” the announcement said. “We suspect some members of the press may find themselves unexpectedly free that night, and we want to feed them and give them hugs.”
The White House Correspondents’ Dinner is — or, at least, used to be — an evening of humor with the president, hosted by the White House Correspondents’ Association. It’s drawn many A-list celebrities (last year, the Globe brought the stars of “Spotlight”), and has featured big emcees, such as Larry Wilmore, Cecily Strong of “Saturday Night Live,” Seth Meyers, Conan O’Brien, and Jay Leno.

There’s already a social media hashtag for Bee’s alternative event: #NotTheWHCD. TBS says proceeds from the night will benefit the Committee to Protect Journalists.
