Thomas Bena has been making the rounds with “One Big Home,” the documentary he directed about the behemoth houses being built on Martha’s Vineyard. The compelling film tells the story of Bena’s divisive (but ultimately successful) campaign to curb the size of new construction in the bucolic up-island community of Chilmark.

Interestingly, Bena will be screening the film this summer in the Hamptons — the super-rich redoubt on Long Island that’s already overrun with starter castles — at the same time actor Frank Langella will be shooting the movie “Lapham Rising” nearby.

If you’re not familiar with the Roger Rosenblatt novel on which “Lapham Rising” is based, it’s about a retired writer whose peace and quiet in the Hamptons is interrupted when a bombastic multimillionaire named Lapham begins constructing a gargantuan mansion across the street.

Needless to say, the irony is not lost on Bena.
