Museum of Fine Arts staffers, including Anne Nishimura Morse, the MFA’s William and Helen Pounds Senior Curator of Japanese Art, paid a visit to contemporary artist Takashi Murakami at his studio in Japan this week. In the fall, the museum’s mounting “Takashi Murakami: Lineage of Eccentrics,” an exhibition pairing the artist’s distinctive work with selections from the MFA’s own collection. (For example, Soga Shohaku’s 36-foot “Dragon and Clouds,” which the MFA owns, will be exhibited alongside Murakami’s version of the masterpiece.) Younger, hipper folks may know Murakami from his high-profile collaborations with fashion house Louis Vuitton, singer Pharrell, and rapper Kanye West, whose album, “Graduation,” features the artist’s work on the cover.
