Mourners and music fans gathered at Boston Common on Sunday afternoon to honor Chester Bennington, the 41-year-old Linkin Park singer who commited suicide this month. The gathering was organized on Facebook by Mike Martin and Angie Campello. Those in attendance at the Common shared memories of the rock band and its music.

“Here we meet to show our respect to Chester, the band, and his family. All are welcome to join us. Please bring your own small candle and something personal to honor Chester,” the Facebook post said.

Chester’s wife, Talinda Bennington, tweeted to fans last week: “I want to let my community and the fans worldwide know that we feel your love. We feel your loss as well. . . . He was a bright, loving soul with an angel’s voice. And now he is pain free singing his songs in all of our hearts. May God bless us all and help us turn to one another when we are in pain. Chester would’ve wanted us to do so.”
