Filming has begun on “Castle Rock,” the 10-episode Hulu series being produced by J.J. Abrams.
For the past few days, cast and crew of the show — the first scripted television series to be filmed in Massachusetts in 30 years — have been working at a Victorian home on Neck Road in Lancaster. The Worcester Telegram reports that the five-bedroom, three-bathroom house is owned by Hollis Petri and Heidi Horton.
Word is the production has had a minor impact on local traffic. Neck Road will be closed Monday at 7 a.m. for a few hours from Center Bridge Road to Packard Street. A letter from location manager Kevin Foster to residents, and obtained by the Telegram, said: “There will be no car chases, explosions or gunfire. Just dead bodies.”
Filming, which will continue until December, is also expected to take place in Orange and Devens. The series is named for — and set in — the fictional town of Castle Rock, Maine, which is mentioned frequently in the stories of Stephen King.
The cast of the psychological-horror drama includes “Hemlock Grove” alum Bill Skarsgard, André Holland of “Moonlight” fame, Sissy Spacek, who starred in the film version of King’s novel “Carrie,” as well as Jane Levy and Melanie Lynskey.
