Regardless of what the busybodies on Martha’s Vineyard may be saying, pay no attention to the rumor that
Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, are looking to buy a place on the island. It’s fake news.
That’s the word from Obama spokesman Kevin Lewis, who says it’s not true that the Obamas are eyeing real estate on the island. (He even underlined the word “not” in his e-mail to us.)
As they have for the past several summers, the former president and his family rented a house on Martha’s Vineyard for a couple of weeks this August. Many of their friends have places on the Vineyard, and longtime islanders we spoke to, including some who are very well-connected, said the Obamas had interest in buying a house or property.
One place that was mentioned as a possibility was a waterfront parcel in Aquinnah owned by Caroline Kennedy and her husband, Edwin Schlossberg. But it appears the property’s listing broker, George Ballantyne of Gibson Sotheby’s International Realty, will have to find a buyer elsewhere.
