Route 91 Harvest headliner Jason Aldean one of the biggest names in country music

Country music star Jason Aldean was performing for a packed crowd on the final night of the Route 91 Harvest country music festival when gun shots rang out Sunday. The 30,000-person capacity festival was located on the Las Vegas Strip near the Mandalay Bay Hotel.

A 64-year-old gunman shot at the crowd from the nearby hotel’s 32nd floor. At least 58 people have reportedly died and 515 were taken to hospitals.

Live Nation first produced this festival in 2014, making this its fourth year. The three-day festival was held across the street from Mandalay Bay.

Aldean is a country music megastar, regularly filling stadiums around the country. During the summer of 2016, the Georgia native sold out Boston’s Fenway Park in less than two hours.

In a recent Rolling Stones interview, his style was described as a “hard rock and hip-hop influenced brand of country.”

His 2009 album “Wide Open” had three number one singles on it. He then saw even greater success when his 2011 single “Dirt Road Anthem” became a quadruple platinum hit, meaning that it sold more than 4 million copies.

In 2016, Forbes listed him as the fifth highest paid country artist of the year putting his annual earnings at $36.5 million. Last year, he became the first country act with a stake in Jay Z’s music streaming site Tidal.

Route 91 Harvest’s other headliners include population singer-songwriter Sam Hunt and Eric Church, who has six albums, two of which have sold over a million copies.
