There’s sad news to report about the New Bedford-bred pop band LFO. A week after doctors removed a tumor from his adrenal gland, singer Devin Lima has been diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal cancer.

Band member Brad Fischetti shared the news in a YouTube video, and updated fans on Lima’s condition and prognosis.

“Devin asked me to give you this update without him because, frankly, he’s not feeling very well. But he asked me to send you his love and gratitude for all the love and prayers you guys have sent his way. He’s had a tough recovery. He had a few really difficult days in the hospital, but thankfully, he’s home now, resting and healing.”

Formed in 1995 by Rich Cronin, Brad Fischetti, and Brian Gillis, LFO is best known for their 1999 hit “Summer Girls.” Gillis eventually left the group and was replaced by Lima, who was working in a hardware store at the time. The band scored another hit with “Girl on TV,” a song Cronin wrote about his then-girlfriend Jennifer Love Hewitt, who appeared in the video for the song.

In 2005, Cronin was diagnosed with leukemia and underwent chemotherapy. He went into remission, but the disease returned in the summer of 2010 and he died a few months later. Cronin was 36. Determined to carry on, Fischetti said Lima recently recorded a new song, “Perfect 10,” which they’ve dedicated to their fans.

In the YouTube video, Fischetti said Lima is hopeful he’ll recover soon and return to the stage.

“It’s my hope and prayer that we have that opportunity again,” Fischetti said. “Actually, I know that we’ll have that opportunity again.”
