Woody McClain, who played Bobby Brown in BET’s “The New Edition Story,” will portray the Roxbury-bred singer again in the “The Bobby Brown Story,” Deadline reported Monday. BET announced the spinoff project about Brown in April, following the success of the New Edition miniseries. “The Bobby Brown Story” — which will follow Brown through his career and personal life after going solo from the group — will air next year.

Brown, who went solo from New Edition in 1985, has supported BET’s take on his life so far. When he appeared at the Paley Center for Media’s screening of “The New Edition Story” in 2016, the singer said, “Watching and being alive to be able to see what my life was and has become and where my life is going from this point on? It’s special, man.”

TMZ reported Friday, meanwhile, that Brown settled a lawsuit regarding a different biopic, TV One’s “Bobbi Kristina,” which was about Bobbi Kristina Brown, Brown’s daughter with the late Whitney Houston. Bobbi Kristina Brown died in 2015, months after she was found unresponsive in a bathtub in her home in Atlanta.

Brown and his daughter’s estate were unsuccessful in stopping the TV One film from airing, but a defamation case had continued.
