WCVB-TV (Channel 5) has a new weekend evening anchor and general assignment reporter, and he’s got a familiar last name.

Duke Castiglione, whose dad is longtime Red Sox announcer Joe Castiglione, has been hired by the local ABC affiliate to co-anchor on weekends with Nichole Berlie and to report during the week.

Castiglione, a Marshfield native and Stonehill College alum, had been working at WNYW Fox 5 in New York, where he was sports anchor and host of the Sunday night program “Sports Extra.” Before WNYW, Castiglione was a sports reporter with Boston’s WHDH-TV and a sideline reporter for ESPN on the network’s Major League Baseball and college football games.

“Duke’s breadth of experience as an anchor and reporter, as well as his local knowledge of the region and its newsmakers, make him an ideal fit for WCVB,” said WCVB GM Bill Fine in a statement. “He has a proven track record for getting compelling interviews and telling great stories, and we know he will be a tremendous asset to the outstanding news team we have here at Channel 5.”

For his part, Castiglione sounds happy to be coming back to the Bay State.

“I am very excited to join WCVB, the station I grew up watching in Marshfield, and I look forward to contributing to this legacy news organization,” he said.
