Talk about a small world.

Congressman Seth Moulton and comedian John Mulaney were guests on “Late Night With Seth Meyers” Wednesday, and it turns out they have a weird connection.

Mulaney revealed that his great-grandfather George Bates and his great uncle William Bates both held the congressional seat now occupied by Moulton. That’s right, the Bates father and son, who were Republicans, held the 6th congressional seat from the 1940s until 1967.

Mulaney said his grandmother — George Bates’s daughter and William Bates’s sister — is also a Republican and still lives on the North Shore. When she heard that grandson was going to be on the show with Moulton, she said: “I like him so much. I wish he would come over to our side and I’m here to welcome him.”
