Actress Diane Guerrero, the Boston native known for her roles on “Orange Is the New Black” and “Jane the Virgin,” will deliver the commencement address at Regis College, where she’ll also receive an honorary doctorate of laws for her work on behalf of immigrants known as “Dreamers.”
“This degree is a total game changer and a very special honor,” the actress, who attended Regis, said in a statement. “Regis contributed to who I am today and I’m excited to share more about my experiences at Regis and beyond with the class of 2018.”
The ceremony takes place May 12.
Guerrero, whose parents and older brother were deported back to Colombia when she was 14, is the author of “In the Country We Love,” a memoir about her life as the daughter of undocumented parents and her struggle to deal with the consequences of US immigration policies.
In addition to Guerrero, Hill Holliday founder Jack Connors will receive an honorary doctorate of laws degree for his philanthropy.
