Dorchester teacher Jennifer Dines is on the right track, baby, because she’s been awarded a $5,000 grant by Lady Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation and DonorsChoose.org. An English as a Second Language teacher at the Lilla G. Frederick Pilot Middle School, Dines has 45 students in three grade levels and also runs an after-school program. The Roslindale resident participates in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum’s Thinking Through Art program, a grad-level course focused on teaching and learning, which she’s used to create projects to help her students, most of whom are new to the US, combine their artistic and writing skills. Dines is one of five grant winners selected by the foundation, which promotes mental and emotional wellness among young people. She says that she plans on buying a SMART board for her classroom, which will help her students learn through art.
