Matt Damon and Ben Affleck likely hope their next film will not only pass Go, but collect more than $200.

Deadline reports that the Cambridge-born duo is teaming up for a film about an ex-cop who rigged the McDonald’s Monopoly game for years, stealing millions in winning game pieces in the process.

Damon will star as Jerome Jacobson, the man formerly in charge of overseeing the McDonald’s Monopoly game to ensure it remained fraud-free. According to an in-depth July 28 Daily Beast article about the crime written by Jeff Maysh, Jacobson instituted stringent security measures for the workers tasked with making the Monopoly game pieces, all the while stealing many of the big prize-winning pieces. He distributed them between 1995 and 2000 to a sprawling network of associates that included friends, in-laws, mobsters, psychics, strip club owners, and a family of Mormons.

The fraud was widely reported when Jacobson (known as “Uncle Jerry” by his benefactors) was first arrested in August 2001. However, the trial began on Sept. 10, 2001, after which it swiftly disappeared from most news coverage due to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, according to the Daily Beast.

The film, which will be adapted from the Daily Beast article and directed by Affleck, will be co-written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, the pair behind Fox’s “Deadpool” films.
