Riz Ahmed is set to play the lead in a new movie, and it’s reportedly starting production in Boston.
Variety was first to confirm that Ahmed will star opposite Olivia Cooke in “The Sound of Metal,” a music drama. The two will play a couple who are also bandmates. Their relationship is tested when Ahmed’s character, a drummer, starts to lose his hearing.
Ahmed is best known for his starring role in the Emmy-winning HBO series “The Night Of” and for “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” He will also star opposite Tom Hardy in “Venom” this October. Cooke has recently been seen in “Ready Player One” and A&E’s “Bates Motel.”

The film, which was slated to start Boston production at the end of July, is a Caviar endeavor, with Bert Hamelinck and Sacha Ben Harroche producing. Caviar’s Michael Sagol and Jasper Thomlinson, and Ward Four’s Dan Sbrega and Daniel Abedon will executive produce, according to Variety.
