Riz Ahmed is set to play the lead in a new movie, and it’s reportedly starting production in Boston.
Variety was first to confirm that Ahmed will star opposite Olivia Cooke in “The Sound of Metal,” a music drama. The two will play a couple who are also bandmates. Their relationship is tested when Ahmed’s character, a drummer, starts to lose his hearing.
Ahmed is best known for his starring role in the Emmy-winning HBO series “The Night Of” and for “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.” He will also star opposite Tom Hardy in “Venom” this October. Cooke has recently been seen in “Ready Player One” and A&E’s “Bates Motel.”
The film, which was slated to start Boston production at the end of July, is a Caviar endeavor, with Bert Hamelinck and Sacha Ben Harroche producing. Caviar’s Michael Sagol and Jasper Thomlinson, and Ward Four’s Dan Sbrega and Daniel Abedon will executive produce, according to Variety.Lillian Brown can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org
