WGBH has added 12 episodes of the longtime Cambridge resident’s seminal cooking show “The French Chef” to its WGBH Passport online platform, with plans to add 50 more episodes on Sept. 5. WGBH members who pledge $5 a month can access the episodes on, along with numerous other PBS shows past and present.

“The French Chef” broke ground for cooking TV shows, and made the already renowned Child an even bigger star when it began airing in 1963. WGBH produced the program — which won a 1964 Peabody Award and a 1966 Primetime Emmy Award — in the Boston area for 11 years.

“Julia Child was a pioneer, bringing her culinary talents to WGBH before anyone was offering cooking shows on television,” WGBH vice president for digital services Bob Kempf said in a press release. “We are thrilled to now be able to offer The French Chef through WGBH Passport [so] that our members can once again experience Julia Child, now when they want to see it and on whatever platform they prefer.”
