Happy BeyDay! The long holiday weekend is over, but fans and friends and much of social media took time Tuesday to celebrate Beyoncé, born on this day 37 years ago, Sept. 4, 1981.

“It’s midnight on the east coast,” Ava DuVernay tweeted on Tuesday at 12:02 a.m. “Time to offer well wishes and warmest regards to a living legend. Put some respeck on it. A happy, healthy, best life living birthday to @Beyonce. And many more!”

DuVernay, the director behind “Selma” and “A Wrinkle in Time,” also directed Beyoncé and husband Jay-Z in “Family Feud,” a music video from Jay-Z’s album “4:44.” Beyoncé and Jay-Z are currently on tour together, and performed at Gillette Stadium last month.

Actress-singer Zendaya also tweeted out a Happy “BeyDay” and, in a reply to a fan on Twitter, referred to Tuesday as “an international holiday.”

Other celebs shared similar sentiments, including Missy Elliott Wendy Williams , DJ Khaled , Laverne Cox , and Ben Platt, who posted a picture of himself next to Beyoncé on Twitter, along with the caption: “Happy Birthday to my president.”

Perhaps the best birthday message came from Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles, who posted a picture of her daughter as a baby on Instagram, along with a touching caption that read, in part: “On this day you were 4 months old and i couldn’t even control the excitement and pride and the all encompassing love i felt for you, my first born.”
