Sally LaPointe has dressed everyone from Lady Gaga to Kim Kardashian, but her Tuesday show at New York Fashion Week made clear she’s most interested in designing for modern women — whether or not they’re boldface names. A Marblehead native and Rhode Island School of Design grad, LaPointe sent a sleek but intensely wearable collection down the Spring 2019 runway. Drop-shoulder silhouettes and silky fabrics played counterpoint to shiny vinyl and PVC, while cream, peach, and hot pink made for a warm palette. LaPointe was reportedly influenced by the “East of West” comic book series for this new line, and some of the pieces have just the slightest hint of Western style. But the slick vinyl — used for skirts, shirts, and raincoats — evoked nothing so much as “Blade Runner” and a perplexing near future.
