The Boston Symphony Orchestra kicked off its 2018-19 season with a glittery gala at Symphony Hall. The event — which raised more than $1.7 million — featured performances by the BSO’s new principal cellist Blaise Déjardin , the Boston Symphony Children’s Choir conducted by James Burton, as well as soprano Erica Petrocelli, a recent graduate of the New England Conservatory artist diploma program. There were 600 guests at the gala, which featured cuisine by chef Tony Maws of Craigie on Main and The Kirkland Tap & Trotter. It is the BSO’s 138th season.
