VNA gala honors health care ‘heroes’

The Visiting Nurse Association of Boston celebrated its annual “Heroes in Health Care” gala at the Mandarin Oriental Saturday night. The evening, which honored three heroes, raised $250,000 for the 132-year-old VNA of Boston, part of VNA Care.

The gala was co-chaired by Linda Hope-Springer and Loriann Meager. Amy and Dr. Joshua Boger served as honorary chairs. Dr. David Schenkein, CEO, accepted a Hero award on behalf of Agios. Thomas A. Croswell, president and CEO of Tufts Health Plan, and Dr. Joan Y. Reede, dean for diversity and community partnership of Harvard Medical School, also received Hero awards.

Among the attendees were Holly Chaffee, president and CEO of VNA Care; WBZ-TV medical reporter Dr. Mallika Marshall; WGBH’s Emily Rooney; Dr. Steven Strongwater, president and CEO of Atrius Health; and former Heroes James Roosevelt Jr., Jackie Jenkins-Scott, Dr. Pierantonio Russo, John Greed, and Rich Rakowski.
