The Boston Symphony Orchestra had a 40th-birthday surprise for their music director, Andris Nelsons, following Saturday evening’s performance at Symphony Hall.
And what’s a birthday surprise without cake? Oakleaf Cakes Bake Shop created one fit for the occasion. The Symphony Hall cake, complete with details that included organ pipes and a Beethoven plaque, was wheeled onstage as the orchestra played “Happy Birthday” and the audience sang along.
In true serendipity, Nelsons shares his birthday, Nov. 18, with BSO founder Henry Lee Higginson (born Nov. 18, 1834).
