The coat seen round the world will soon be available to shoppers.
Max Mara, the Italian fashion house behind House minority leader Nancy Pelosi’s widely discussed rust-colored coat, will reissue the style in 2019 and make it available to consumers once more, according to Shawna Schmitz, Max Mara’s US director of communications.
The coat blew up on the internet when Pelosi was seen wearing it, smiling, with a pair of chic sunglasses, as she left the White House on Tuesday. Pelosi, the House minority leader, met in the Oval Office with President Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, and Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer. Schumer was seen wearing an orange tie a few shades lighter than Pelosi’s coat.

“This coat was designed over 6 years ago; a good coat is a life companion so it should be designed not to date,” Ian Griffiths, Max Mara’s creative director, said in a statement.
Griffiths noted that Pelosi first wore the coat publicly to President Obama’s second inauguration in 2013, when the style was first released.
“You develop an emotional relationship with a coat like nothing else in your wardrobe and Max Mara coats are much more than just clothes,” Griffiths continued. “They represent lasting values, they project personal strength and glamour. I can imagine why Ms. Pelosi chose to wear the FIRE COAT for this important moment and I’m honoured.”
The congresswoman’s daughter, Christine Pelosi, also chimed in on Twitter.
“This makes me smile,” she tweeted. “I remember shopping with Nancy Pelosi aka Mom for this coat at Christmastime 2012 for President Obama’s second inaugural.”
She also added that although “the reports say it’s red,” people should “expect a dark orange.”
