Comedians Phoebe Robinson, Nikki Glaser, and the Wild Horses improv team (Stephanie Allynne, Mary Holland, Erin Whitehead, and Lauren Lapkus) will headline the Women in Comedy Festival at the Wilbur in May, the WICF announced Tuesday.
The Women in Comedy Festival will celebrate female comedians for the 10th year at a variety of Greater Boston venues May 2-5. Each year, nearly 200 comedians of all genders, from sketch writers to stand-up performers, participate in the festival in an effort to close the gender gap in comedy. Activities include stand-up routines, competitions, and panel discussions.
HBO, NBC, and Frankie Shaw (the creator and star of Showtime’s “SMILF”) were announced as WICF partners last week.
“I’m honored to be involved with the Women in Comedy Festival,” Shaw said in a statement. “Ten years ago, the producers saw a void where women’s voices weren’t being heard nor shared. Over the years, the festival has made a conscious effort in presenting the diverse perspectives that we as women have. I look forward to working with the Festival in creating new opportunities for women of all backgrounds to share their stories.”
Tickets for the headlining acts go on sale Friday.
