Actress-writer-director Lisa Edelstein was in Newton on May 6 for the Combined Jewish Philanthropies’ Pomegranate Society & Friends event. Edelstein, best known for her roles on “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce” and “House,” gave a speech and then spoke to Globe Love Letters advice columnist Meredith Goldstein in a Q&A about some of the challenges and memorable experiences she’s faced throughout her life and career. Born in Boston, Edelstein’s childhood was spent in New Jersey. But the actress did note that one of her earliest experiences in Boston was being briefly switched at birth in the hospital. Her parents, fortunately, noticed the difference, and she was switched back.
