Filming began Sunday in downtown Boston on “Free Guy,” an adventure-comedy movie starring Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds plays a bank teller who figures out he has become a character in the open-world video game “Free City.”
The movie set has taken over the Liberty Square area. On Sunday, a bank robbery scene was shot there with a snazzy orange sports car used in the filming.

By Saturday afternoon, Liberty Square looked more like a location in a video game as production crews painted buildings and put the final touches on a newsstand with actual “fake news” including “MAN” magazine, which had a cover story that read “Favorite ways to be mugged,” and “Vacation” magazine, with a story about “Hot spots to watch on screen.” The front-page story on the “Free City News” was “94-year-old woman robs bank for lover.”
