Viewers will get to see the next layer of “Russian Doll.”

Netflix has renewed the acclaimed series, which debuted in February, for a second season. News of the renewal broke at the 2019 Code Conference Tuesday in Arizona. In a conversation with Recode’s Kara Swisher , Netflix VP Cindy Holland teasingly asked “Russian Doll” star and co-creator Natasha Lyonne if she’d be interested in a second season.

“Want to do a Season 2, Natasha?” Holland asked.

“Me, Cindy? Same show, just weirder? Are you sure?” Lyonne said. “Nadia Vulvokov is a coder, as you know, so I guess it would be somewhat appropriate to maybe have this be the time and place to say yes, very much so, I would love to do that, Cindy.”

“Russian Doll” stars Lyonne as Nadia, who — on her 36th birthday — keeps dying and then waking up in the bathroom at her birthday party. The plot has been described as “Groundhog Day”-esque, but only out of a lack of viable comparisons. Amy Poehler and Leslye Headland co-created the series with Lyonne.

The series — which Globe TV critic Matthew Gilbert called “a great celebration of complexity, of choosing life, and of self-awareness” — has been hailed as one of the best shows of the year.
