West Elm is taking an un-big box-like approach to filling its shelves. The company, which has committed millions of dollars to buy from global artisans, is now tapping talent closer to home. The initiative launched last month in six cities, including Boston, where eight Massachusetts makers debuted designs. Finds include graphic art prints by J. Hill Design, planters by Taylor Ceramics, tote bags made from salvaged textiles by Forest Bound, and concrete kitchenware, like this “Hexi” bowl by Culinarium, $95.
