All about that look: Kate Bartlett

Kate Bartlett wears many hats. When she’s not working her part-time job at Aquent, a staffing agency in Boston, she’s advocating for the developmentally challenged for the Massachusetts Down Syndrome Congress. But Bartlett is also passionate about fashion, authoring a blog called Kate’s Closet that she shares with friends on Facebook.

“I try and do different things each day. If I get something new, I say, OK, this is going on my blog,” said Bartlett, 30, who started keeping track of her outfits three years ago.

Her love of shopping and pretty things started in childhood. “I had a lot of clothes,” she said. “That’s not a lie.”

When she was young, she loved tracing Barbie ensembles and decorating them with colors and patterns of her own design. On one of her trips to Disney World, she fell in love with Mary Poppins.

“When we got back my parents had to buy me red shoes,” she recalled.

Having Down syndrome can make shopping challenging, but Bartlett says she knows what styles best suit her body.

“My arms are so short that I can’t wear long sleeves [off the rack]. We hem the sleeves if they’re too long or we try to buy shirts with three-quarter sleeves.

Added her mother, Jan Tobin: “There’s been a lot of those in style lately.”

Fashion influencers: Her brother Mike’s girlfriend, Maddie Guthrie, and her brother Stephen’s fiancee, Kristin Cina. She also loves Dianna Agron, who starred on “Glee.” “I have an outfit dedicated to her on my blog. It’s a black short-sleeve top and flower print dress and it’s titled “The Next Quinn Fabray.”

On her petite feet: “I’m a size 4, which is a kids’, but I want adult shoes. It’s kind of tough. Clarks sells a 5.”
