Insider: Cool, retro-looking kitchen time

By Ann Trieger Kurland Globe correspondent

The retro-looking timer from the German company Zassenhaus has a magnetic back that attaches to the fridge or stove ($16). It’s not only useful to have it readily at-hand when there’s something in the oven or on the stovetop, but so stylish you will want to keep it out. The little timer comes in fun enameled colors, like powder blue, pink, orange, and red. Wind it to the desired time (no batteries needed). Even if you step away from the kitchen, it’s likely you’ll hear the loud alarm when the time is up. It sounds like an old-fashioned school bell.
