Sometimes you just want to take a nap. Julie Simms’s new shop, Nap, knows this about you, with the artist’s hand-pieced and -stitched quilts gently billowing on a clothesline across the store, located on Provincetown’s main drag in a seaside shingled cottage. Simms’s designs have a vintage vibe with a thoroughly modern sensibility, combining the look of everyday textiles from a grandmother’s home with spare, often asymmetric arrangements. Simms derives her well-worn color palettes from the shifting environment of the Cape itself, with its startlingly sunny skies, nor’easter blusters, and foggy horizons. Each piece is unique, and there are pillows too.
