The Mandarin Oriental, Boston (776 Boylston St.) hosts an afternoon family tea and story reading on Sunday, Nov. 18, with very special guests: Patrick Downes and Jessica Kensky, Boston Marathon bombing survivors and, now, authors.
The pair will read from their kids’ book, “Rescue and Jessica: A Life-Changing Friendship,” all about Kensky’s transformative relationship with the reliable, loving service dog that helped her heal.
Families can meet Rescue, a spunky black lab, as well as the Mandarin’s two golden retrievers. Kids get sparkling apple cider and a goodie bag; parents can enjoy a champagne toast, teas, scones, sandwiches, and fancy pastries.
Tickets are $78 per adult. A portion of the proceeds benefit Franciscan Children’s in Brighton, where Downes read over the summer to welcome that hospital’s very own service dog, Marcus.
The two-hour tea starts at 1 p.m. Get tickets at www.eventbrite.com.
