At the tip of the point near Boothbay Harbor, the Ocean Point Inn is a sprawling, unpretentious, relatively quiet resort that’s a throwback to the golden age of summers in Maine. But it is also just as spectacular in the fall. Quaint and old-fashioned, accommodations range from swank guest rooms in the main inn to cottages and more rustic rooms in the outer buildings. Most face the rocky coastline, affording gorgeous views of the water and rare west-angled views of spectacular sunsets. Amenities include a pool, lily pond (with ducks and turtles for the kids) and a pier, and the on-site restaurant is fabulous, considered one of the finest in the area. It’s the perfect spot to chill. Still plenty of time before the inn shutters for the season on Oct. 13. Nightly rates in the fall range from $79 (midweek, economy room) to $299 (two-bedroom oceanfront cottage).
