Since she was a teenager, Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito has been enjoying family visits to Cape Cod, and she likens crossing over the Sagamore Bridge to “doing the wave at Fenway Park.” Polito, 48, who is a graduate of Boston College and New England Law Boston, was sworn in alongside Governor Charlie Baker in January. We caught up with the Shrewsbury native, who lives in her hometown with her husband, Steve, and their two children, to talk about all things travel.

Favorite vacation spot? Cape Cod. I have vacationed on the Cape with my family since I was 13 years old, and we continue that tradition with our kids. Three generations of family
vacation together, from my parents to all their grandchildren, and there’s no other place in the world we would rather be.

Favorite food or drink while vacationing? We enjoy clam digging, which means I enjoy any dish that includes clams.

Where would you like to travel to but haven’t? Visiting our national parks is on our family bucket list, so a road trip to the Grand Canyon National Park would be high on the list.

One item you can’t leave home without when traveling? Sunglasses.

Aisle or window? The aisle seat because the kids love the window.

Favorite childhood travel memory? Driving over the Sagamore Bridge. As kids, we were always excited to visit and enjoy our vacation time together. Crossing the bridge is like doing the wave at Fenway Park.

Guilty pleasure when traveling? Sleeping in.

Best travel tip? Pack light.
