Viewfinder: Greek Independence Day at Boston Common

Michele McDonald

After their annual parade from Boylston to Charles Street, Greek-Americans celebrate Greek Independence Day at Boston Common with Greek food, music, and dancing. This year’s event, the 21st annual, was held on April 26.

Greek Independence Day commemorates the start of the revolt against the Ottoman Empire in 1821. The revolution ended eight years later with the establishment of an independent Greek state.
