The VIP Lounge with Martha Stewart

Antarctica, Tasmania, and Norway are on domestic diva Martha Stewart’s travel docket in the new year, but next week she will be in Uncasville, Conn., hosting a brunch at the annual Sun, Wine & Food Festival at Mohegan Sun. Stewart, 76, will be joined by rapper/television personality Snoop Dogg, 46, with whom she hosts a TV show on VH1, “Martha and Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party.” “Brunch has become everyone’s favorite weekend meal, and I’m excited to prepare some of my favorite dishes at this year’s Sun, Wine & Food Fest,” Stewart said. The 15th annual culinary festival, which will feature celebrity chefs and wine experts, runs Jan. 26-28. The brunch is on Sunday. Stewart, who was born in Jersey City, N.J., lives in Bedford, N.Y. We recently caught up with the lifestyle queen, who has a daughter and two grandchildren, to talk about all things travel.

Favorite vacation destination? I actually prefer to travel to destinations that I’ve never been before. I want to see as much of the planet as I possibly can.

Favorite food or drink while vacationing? I enjoy trying the local cuisine wherever I travel and I search out the best suggestions from friends and journalists.

Where would you like to travel to but haven’t? I have plans to travel to Antarctica for a photography expedition and I couldn’t be more excited. I am also trying to plan a trip to Tasmania sometime soon. I love long flights. My trip to Svalbard in Norway, which is in early February, will take me to the Global Seed Vault.

One item you can’t leave home without when traveling? My three iPads. One is dedicated to books, one for TV shows, and one for movies — and all for communications. They keep me busy if I have trouble sleeping while traveling.

Aisle or window? I love windows so I can see out, but I also like to sleep and find windows more convenient.

Favorite childhood travel memory? The yearly Erie Lackawanna train ride from Newark, N.J., to Buffalo, N.Y., to visit my maternal grandparents. What excitement!

Guilty pleasure when traveling? Disconnecting from all obligations if I wish.

Best travel tip? Bring good food with you to eat on the plane. I often take my own food so I can eat something healthy and delicious. Get up several times to make sure blood circulation is maintained.
