Boston will always have a special place in the heart of Adam Levin, drummer for the alternative rock band X Ambassadors. “We spent many years driving back and forth between Boston and New York, playing shows and trying to build a name for ourselves,” said Levin. “We’ve played so many shows there. It was one of the first markets to embrace us in our early days.” The multi-platinum-selling Los Angeles-based band will return to Boston to perform at Royale on June 18. “Boston [fans] always come with so much energy,” said Levin, 31. “We love our fans there.” The X Ambassadors recently released their latest single, “Boom,” and will drop their third album, “Orion,” on June 14. We caught up with Levin to talk about all things travel.

Favorite vacation destination? My favorite vacation destination is definitely Tulum, Mexico. It’s starting to blow up, but there are no big resorts there; everything is small and family run, and the food is amazing.

Favorite food or drink while vacationing? Tacos.

Where would you like to travel to but haven’t? I really want to travel more in Asia. I just got back from Vietnam and had an amazing time. I want to go to Thailand or China next.

One item you can’t leave home without when traveling? My laptop. It is the center of all my work, my music, and my entertainment.

Aisle or window? Definitely aisle. I like being able to get up and stretch whenever I can.

Favorite childhood travel memory? Going to Michigan with my brothers and fishing. I’ve been on more extravagant vacations, but that was my favorite.

Guilty pleasure when traveling? Dessert.

Best travel tip? Learn how to pack light, and how to do your laundry in a hotel sink. Bring your own drain stopper.
